Martin Deeson
Martin Deeson made his name as staff writer of loaded magazine. During his time there he pioneered the new wave of British Gonzo journalism. In the course of his career he has been chased round the Cite de Soleil in Port au Prince by Haitian worshippers of the voodoo Lord of the Underworld Baron Samedi, climbed Ayres Rock, gone on tour with Ozzy Osbourne and jumped out of an aeroplane. He has also interviewed Tony Blair, Michael Heseltine, Iggy Pop, Sean Ryder, James Hewitt, Alastair Campbell and Howard Marks, amongst others. Despite all this, he has a degree from Cambridge University in Social and Political Science. He has reported on everything from Buddhist self-mutilation festivals in Thailand to the British Conservative Party Conference and travelled to many of the world's trouble spots from Angola to Sierra Leone and Colombia. Last year he also reported, for GQ, on the largest ever gathering of humanity at the Kumbha Mela festival in Northern India attended by sixty million Hindus. He now edits two magazines: Square Mile and Hedge. He has been highly commended in the annual PPA Writer of the Year Awards, and has written regular columns on the battle of the sexes for GQ, The Daily Star and Marie Claire magazine.
