Insulated And Elegant: The Private White V.C. Raincoat

With it raining more often than not in cities across Britain for the majority of the year, a selection of quality rainwear is probably a sensible idea - Manchester manufacturers Private White V.C. have just the coat for such damp occasions.

Successfully blurring the lines between technicality and sharp tailoring is not something that is easily done, so when any brand achieves this task with certain elegance – it makes them worth watching to see what else they have in their bag of tricks.

Living in Britain means that at some point, the majority of us are likely to reach an age where we feel the need to buy a jacket to repel the masses of water that fall from the sky each year. And though favourites from your local outdoor shop are more than adequate for most occasions, some days call for something a little bit smarter than what your average North Face or Berghaus can provide – think less Ray Mears, more Humphrey Bogart.

Enter Private White V.C’s Insulated Single Breast Raincoat. A re-invention of the traditional raincoat using a 100% cotton ventile – a fabric that on the surface may not look much cop when it’s raining cats and dogs outside, but is actually fully waterproof and breathable. So much so that upon its development during the Second World War, it was said to increase life expectancy of pilots who were forced to abandon ship from a mere few minutes to a staggering 20 minutes following exposure to water – allowing sufficient time for rescue crews to swoop in.

Aside of keeping you dry, ventile also acts as an effective windbreaker on those extra blustery days when your hair makes you look as if you’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards – as well as having the prolonged durability to remain in your wardrobe for years to come. The use of 3M insulation in the body and sleeves helps to keep the warmth locked in, meaning any bulky layering underneath is unnecessary – and the subtle stitching renders the pockets practically invisible.

Designed and manufactured at the brands own factory in Manchester, the SB4 raincoat is available at £550 from the Private White V.C. Flagship store or online at www.privatewhitevc.com – but as these are limited edition you may want to get cracking if you fancy picking one up.

Nottingham Forest End Of Term Report: A Tale Of Two Steves

It's been a rough season at The City Ground for Nottingham Forest, with an early change of manager and tragedy off the field with the death of Nigel Doughty, Steve Cotterill was always going to have a hefty job on his hands keeping the reds out of relegation trouble.
