Keep Your Feet Dryer Than The Sahara With L.L. Bean's 'Bean Boots'

L.L. Bean have been hand making their Bean Boots since 1912 when company founder Leon Leonwood Bean decided to make a pair of shoes that would keep his feet dry whilst out hunting, move forward a century and they are still going strong.

You’ve had the work boots, you’re done with the hiking boots, but it’s tipping it down outside and the last thing you want to do is put your feet in that pair of wellies lurking at the back of the garage. So what else is there out there to satisfy your winter weather footwear needs? Well you can’t go far wrong with the duck boot. It’s a style that has seen a recent rise in popularity due to casual footwear brands Gourmet and Pointer among others, taking inspiration from the original silhouette and each transforming it into their own contemporary styles. Taking it away from it’s hunting roots and introducing it to new generation of well, urban consumers.

If you are however, looking for the real deal - then you will want to opt for the L.L. Bean ‘Bean Boot’.

Being the foundation that the company was built on, the Bean boot was first dreamt up in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean himself as a means to keep his feet from getting wet through whilst out hunting. As the ultimate in utilitarian footwear the Bean Boot provided not only comfort and style, but by using a combination of leather and rubber stitched together, kept your feet warm and completely dry. A factor that made them popular with the audience that they were originally intended for: the hunters and fishermen of Northeast America – for who they would go on to become an everyday essential. Much like other popular work and walking boot styles that were originally intended for functional purposes, the Bean Boot has been adopted by city dwellers - purely appreciating them for their visual aesthetic rather than the fact they will keep your feet dryer than the Sahara whilst trudging through the mud and rain.

Refusing to stray far from their roots, L.L Bean’s boots are still hand sewn at their factory in Maine, New England - and from there, are shipped out all across the world. Available in a variety of styles and sizes ranging from the low cut moccasins to the 10” insulated boots in more than a handful of colour choices, you are sure to find something to suit your personal tastes. However, with no available UK stockist you will need to visit www.llbean.com to get your hands on a pair.

They look fucking hideous. Just put your wellies on and shut it. Saw a lad with a pair on at a popular local lake walk, family type thing. Thought he had learning difficulties, or at least partially sighted. Poor bastard. Couldn't stop shaking my head in disbelief. Just awful.

Shockers them but the best "duck boot-type" footwear I've seen are the Pointer Slate Pluckrose shoe. I wouldn't wear them myself but they are certainly more stylish than the bean duck boots. One season wonders though either way.

Possibly "interestingly" there's a very brief article on LL Bean in the NYT. All the comments basically say the stuff is totally crap now - that and hideously ugly.

Got to say these look different and I would be interested in a pair. The video is great, good idea to add this as it gives the feel for the company. The boots look unconventional but then they are not for fashion twonks like Coriolanus (I could see you in that movie...) but workwear is supposed to be fit for function first and foremost. Keep bringing this stuff and it will be interesting to see them become popular next winter as this trend for original workwear continues way beyond Carharrt!

Pointer are rubbish, used to work in shoe shops and they were the most returned shoe I've ever seen, absolute shoddy quality.

Bean boots last forever - the quality is absolutely fantastic.

disagree with the above. The original Bean boots may well have been built to last, their new lines however simply don't cut it.
