Conventionally sold in military surplus stores up and down the country, Camouflage is a print that divides opinion. You either wear it, or you don’t. Go into any Army surplus in the country and you can buy any number of camouflage garments – they are functional, and generally excellent value for money - therefore they typically end up appealing to the masses in one form or another. Ironically though in the fashion world, camouflage isn’t worn to help a person blend into their surroundings, it has the complete opposite effect – who’d have thought it?
Camouflage is always there, lurking in the background, hiding behind a tree - it’s what it’s good at. Like every other trend, it dips in and out but when it’s in, it’s IN - and all of a sudden people are dressed head to toe in the stuff, walking round like John Rambo (minus the machine gun and bandana). Camo will be the new chambray, wardrobes will be packed of the stuff. Some brands have been flirting with it for a few seasons now but i think people are properly ready for it now, i wouldnt have touched it say 3 or 4 years ago but in moderation it can look very smart. I bought a pair of carhartt shorts last year, and I'll getting myself a shirt when i see a good one. But not to wear at the same time obviously.
For the love of God. There's a recession on, double dip or otherwise, and you're running an article on spending over £600 on 2 pieces of clothing and a bag. A BAG!!!! Have I unwittingly stumbled into GQ's website? Why not tail the article with something like 'but of course, if you want to spend less on pretty much the same things then go to your local Army & Navy store tooled up with about £80'. Sheesh.
