The Cardigan Strikes Back

A classic is a classic for a reason, and though the cardigan has been through many guises throughout history it has always remained a timeless, versatile bit of kit that keeps you toasty on a frosty day.

The cardigan – now that is a timeless piece of knitwear if ever I’ve seen one. I mean Roy Cropper has managed to span 17 years with a rather garish one on his back and that is no mean feat. If you are in need of a versatile layer to keep you that little bit warmer on the colder days of the year, you can’t go far wrong with the cardigan.

The word on Trend Street is that the cardigan is back with a bang, though we weren’t aware that it had ever gone anywhere? After all, a garment for all occasions that can be dressed up or down, say at the office – or laying around on a Sunday afternoon with a stinking hangover, partnered with a t-shirt or a button down will always remain a classic look.

In perfect timing with the sudden drop in temperature back down to expected levels for this time of year, we’ve decided to pick out three quality cardigans from this seasons offerings. Helping showing that the cardigan has long since shook off it’s pesky humble image that Roy continues to champion.

S.N.S. Herning Stark Cardigan – £195

The choice of many steely Scandinavian fishermen – S.N.S. Herning know a thing or two about durable knitwear. At a time when every man and his clothing label are laying claims to a rich heritage to claw in a few extra customers – Danish bubble knit kings S.N.S. Herning continue to produce top notch insulation in the form that was first introduced by Søren Nielsen Skyt himself, over 80 years ago. The Stark cardigan is made from 100% wool, comes with heavy-duty metal buttons and features the bubble knit texture that the brand is credited with creating.

Folk Bobby Stitch Button up Cardigan – £135

It’s always a good idea to have some variety in your knitwear selection, and this offering from Folk is different enough to inject a bit of life into any wardrobe. Coming in a selection of colours from navy to grey and a vibrant red, there is something to suit everyone. The angled pockets with removable leather straps are a neat little hunting inspired feature, and the construction combination of lambs wool, angora and nylon knitted together using a method called bobby stitch helps to create the cardigans bobbly appearance – whilst also providing it with a suitable name. It is now available alongside an abundance of other knitwear pieces in Folk’s online sale.

Fred Perry Plain Merino Cardigan – £45

If there’s one thing Fred Perry does well it’s simple, understated clothing. The brand needs no introduction or history lessons and the brands iconic laurel logo is thoroughly ingrained in British subculture. If all you want is a traditional v-neck cardigan then you can’t go wrong with Fred Perry’s merino version. Looks ace with a polo, t-shirt, button down or literally any combination you can think of apart from maybe a vest… and it’s available now for a steal at £45 on the Fred Perry online store.

Nottingham Forest End Of Term Report: A Tale Of Two Steves

It's been a rough season at The City Ground for Nottingham Forest, with an early change of manager and tragedy off the field with the death of Nigel Doughty, Steve Cotterill was always going to have a hefty job on his hands keeping the reds out of relegation trouble.
