Three Ace Pairs Of Socks To Put A Spring In Your Step

It's time to leave the mundane, cheap footwear behind and give your feet a breath of fresh air - here are three great brands making ace socks that not only look good but are comfy to boot.

As of late, I’ve become rather obsessed with buying socks, but I’m totally sure why. Is it an age thing? Or is my relentless consumerism finally getting the better of me? What I do know is that the abundance of rather cheap and nasty socks that I have acquired over the years are no longer satisfying my feet’s need to breath.

The humble sock is something that most people may overlook when deciding upon their daily attire. Generally there are two choices: dark socks for the mundane working week and white ’sports’ socks for what probably should be a leisure filled weekend that instead ends up with you sat in front of the TV for two days straight. Well it’s time to open your eyes to whole new kind of sock. Below we have selected 3 quality sets of socks that will not only compliment any footwear / leg wear combination that you so choose, but will be harder to lose in the stacks of dirty washing due to their vibrant styles.

Universal Works

These are the Redwing boot of the sock world: thick, hardwearing and most importantly really warm. They are made in England and co-incidentally go hand in hand, or foot in boot with any pair of heavy-duty footwear – making them the ideal sock for keeping your toes warm throughout the winter. Coming in a small selection of colours and styles you can pick these up at www.goodhoodstore.com for between £13 to £15 a pair.

Uniqlo

Go into any Uniqlo store and you will find a wall of socks. It’s pretty damn impressive – believe me. It’s like a Pantone colour chart of socks. Great stuff. Anyway Uniqlo do a smashing deal comprising of 4 pairs of their socks for just under £10.00. I bought myself 4 pairs on a recent jaunt to the capital and I was literally spoilt for choice. These are a little thinner than the ones above but are ideal for everyday use. If you don’t have the time in your busy schedule to nip down to the shops, you can also buy these online at www.uniqlo.com/uk.

Burlington

The Burlington argyle design is a true classic, and no it’s not just for wearing down the clubhouse after a few rounds of golf. With the trademark Burlington branded stud and more colour variations than you can shake a foot at, you can’t really go wrong. These are the ideal companion for a smart pairing of say, cords and brogues and are available now at the bargain price of £7 a pair over at www.asos.com.

love those Universal works socks! If you were to add a fourth it'd have to be Marko John's, right?! http://www.marko-johns.com

Oh. I misunderstood the headline, and thought I'd discovered a fellow weirdo that wears three pairs at the same time. Still just me then...

i like those peach uniqlo ones. i once bought in a reduced price bargain a pair of socks from somewhere on Saville Row ... they were once 70 quid or something. i gave them to my brother and he hardly noticed!! i wish i'd kept them myself they were ace. the same colour as american mustard, which might explain the price crash!

£7 for Burlington's are a bargain. I was paying not shy of that for 'em over 20 years ago. They were the only sock to wear between between waxy leather DM soled Hawkins and your second hand 501's.

Hahaha I got two pair of Universal this Christmas and I'm wearing one of them now. They are terrific for these frosty mornings and I love them. Good choice fella!

Nottingham Forest End Of Term Report: A Tale Of Two Steves

It's been a rough season at The City Ground for Nottingham Forest, with an early change of manager and tragedy off the field with the death of Nigel Doughty, Steve Cotterill was always going to have a hefty job on his hands keeping the reds out of relegation trouble.
