Matt Smith, the 11th Doctor Who, was a handy footballer as a teenager turning out for Leicester City and Nottingham Forest academy teams.

There can’t have been too many moments when the worlds of Time Travel and Football have crossed but that’s not to say it might still not happen. In a recent interview with British Esquire, Matt Smith, the new actor lined up to play the latest incarnation of Dr Who has revealed that he had a budding career as a footballer before a degenerative spine problem forced him to call full time. Smith was captain of Leicester City’s Under 15s academy team before joining Nottingham Forest where he played at centre half alongside future England World Cup player Jermaine Jenas, currently with Spurs.

Only the Dr will know whether Gallifrey have a decent side or not.
