Ditch Pav, get Huntelaar, but for the love of God PLEASE don't let us lose to Young Boys...
Team: Spurs
Hopes for the season: To win the Champions League. Actually, just getting past the play-off will do. And we should – we’re playing Young Boys, a little-known Swiss outfit whose travelling support consists almost wholly of priests carrying left-handed binoculars.
Fears for the season: Losing to Young Boys and it all going downhill from there.
Fixture looking forward to most? The first in the Champions League group stage.
Got the right manager? If you can take a club from rock bottom, two points in eight games, to fourth in the Premiership after one full season in charge, you’re doing something right. Though I am worried, given the wheeler-dealer Harry is, that we’ve signed just one midfielder (at time of writing) with less than a fortnight of the transfer window left. I thought, when your team finally made it into the Champions League, players actively wanted to join?
Player you’d most like to sign? We’ve been trying for Huntelaar since 1902, so let’s go with him. We badly need a striker – ours just aren’t consistent enough. A quick check of his website shows he’s at least keen: ‘Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal are among a host of top European sides that have been linked with Huntelaar. The transfer window is open for two more days.’
Which player should we look out for? Bale will continue to be sensational down the left – goals and assists galore.
Which player would you love to ditch? Everyone else says Jenas. I’m going Pavlyuchenko, then ducking. The sitters he missed against Chelsea at the Lane, once he’d put in a few decent games, suggest it ain’t in his heart. (Provided we replace him, of course.)
Tell us something we don’t know? I’ve paid £780 for a season ticket, in the hope that Peter Crouch scores. Another £49 and I could have guaranteed it.
What won’t happen this season? Everything we hope will happen. That’s the Spurs way. Still we live in hope, which is also the Spurs way.
Favourite chant? ‘We can see you sneaking out!’ (White Hart Lane, 14 April 2010).
Any other news? Our centre backs are currently rehearsing Only When I Laugh: The Musical, set for the West End in December 2010.
