A masterclass in suspense film-making, the whole thing is a masterpiece, but the moment that sticks in everyone’s mind is when Jack Nicholson (who announced his ‘retirement’ from acting today) reaches the apex of his insanity, blasting his axe through the door and uttering those now timeless two words: “Here’s Johnny!”

Perhaps nice to mention that these are captured from an excellent and very revealing 30 minute documentary about the making of The Shining, filmed by Kubrick's daughter Vivian. It's included on the dvd release and can be seen on..ahum...dailymotion.
