Man City Pile Misery On Man United By Hijacking Number One Target

The red and blue halves of Manchester might currently be furiously stretching hamstrings and calf strings (cheese strings in Rooney’s case), dousing themselves in warpaint and trash talking in the mirrors of their respective hotel rooms ahead of their huge Premier League clash tonight, but their battles are not solely reserved for the pitch.

The Manchester Evening News reports that the two clubs are also ready to go toe to toe in the transfer market - and they’re both eyeing the same targets as we head into the final straight of this season.

Old Trafford boss David Moyes desperately needs to add to his middle third, and has long been stalking Sporting Lisbon’s £32 million rated midfielder William Carvalho - but like a pair of 13 year old schoolboys, City gaffer Manuel Pellegrini has swooped in, declaring that he saw the player first, and they’re off to the metaphorical bike sheds.

The big worry for United is that Carvalho is likely to want Champions League football next year, and that might give their rivals an edge in the race for his signature.
