It Kicked Off In The African Cup Of Nations Last Night
"You know what you've got to do don't you? Prove yourself at Equatorial Guinea"
Crowd trouble interrupted the African Cup of Nations semi final last night between Ghana and Equatorial Guinea. In scenes reminiscent of England fans destroying Lansdowne Road in a riot twenty years ago to the month, the referee abandoned play for 30 minutes while the pitch was cleared of debris.
Ghanaian players and fans had to be shielded by riot police from bottles being thrown from the home end, with a helicopter eventually flown in to help restore order.
Equatorial Guinea were drafted in as last minute hosts of the tournament, leading some to raise concerns about crowd safety and security.
Ghana eventually won the match 3-0.
